1Since coming to China, I've especially liked Chinese food. I decided to learn to cook by myself.
2My Chinese roommate Xiao Li said he could teach me. Last weekend, we went to the supermarket together to buy ingredients.
3Xiao Li said: 'Today we'll make tomato scrambled eggs — the simplest Chinese dish.'
4Back at the dorm, he first taught me to cut the tomatoes, then beat the eggs. He said: 'Put oil in first; wait until it's hot, then add the eggs.'
5I followed his instructions, but the heat was too high, and the eggs got a little burnt. Xiao Li laughed and said: 'It's okay, everyone's like this the first time.'
6Then we added the tomatoes, plus a bit of salt and sugar. After stir-frying for a few minutes, the dish was done.
7Although it didn't look great, the taste was pretty good. I was happy because it was my first time cooking Chinese food.
8Xiao Li said next time he'll teach me to make Kung Pao chicken.
