1When I first arrived in China, I went to a big Chinese supermarket for the first time. It was much bigger than I imagined — three floors.
2I grabbed a cart and went to the fruits and vegetables section first. There were so many kinds of fruit — some I'd never seen in Vietnam.
3I bought some apples and grapes. Then I went to the snacks section — there were many Chinese snacks with Chinese writing on the packaging that I couldn't quite read.
4I grabbed a pack to try. Next I went to buy daily necessities — toothpaste, shampoo, and tissues.
5At checkout, the cashier asked: 'Do you need a bag?' I said yes. She said: 'Bags cost two mao.'
6I paid, but realized I didn't know how to use the self-checkout machine. A lady nearby saw and helped me. She said: 'You'll get the hang of it after using it a few times.'
7I thanked her and carried my stuff back to the dorm. Chinese supermarkets really have so much — and the prices aren't bad. I'll come often.
